Design & Media Arts Students at LATTC to Get a Dedicated Space by 2027

Los Angeles Trade-Technical College (LATTC) was established in 1925. It is one of the nine community colleges in the district. The college offers quality 80 career-technical programs.

Now, to assist students in the path of fashion, media, and design, the college has decided to introduce a separate design and media arts building. The groundbreaking ceremony for the same was hosted on Monday at 10 am.

From LATTC and LACCD presidents to other members of the management, expressed their excitement and vision for the upcoming new building on the campus. Fashion Design and Sign Graphics are two programs that have been part of the college since its beginning. Currently, these courses have hundreds of students enrolled.

The college is elated to expand the scope of programs related to design and media by introducing a new state-of-the-art building. This building will offer a separate area for like-minded students. It will be a space to incorporate more students in more programs.

What Will the Project Look Like

The future Design and Media Arts building will cover 89,445 square feet. It will be a three-story building. Classrooms, computer labs, exhibition and gallery spaces, and many other related facilities will be offered.

Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) has set a clean energy goal to be achieved by 2040. So, the new building will be developed considering the same. It will include fully electrified HVAC and steam systems. Photovoltaic panels that can generate 15% of the building’s average electricity needs will be installed.

The Design and Media Arts building is expected to be completed in 2027. It will house programs like visual communications, fashion merchandising, fashion technology, digital media, and more.

The new addition will enhance the beauty and educational diversity of the college. Not only will it be energy efficient but will also reduce outdoor water use by 50% because of water-efficient irrigation systems. The building will be a perfect place for design and media students to showcase their talent and learn better.
