Cafe Ruisseau, which has locations in Playa Vista and Santa Monica, is expanding to a new location in Hollywood, located at 6775 Selma Ave. Ste. 102.
The third location will be 1297 square feet and is moving into the bottom floor of the Modera Hollywood Apartments. Owner Edward Ackah-Miezah tells What Now Los Angeles that a lot of finalized details are still up in the air, but he expects this new location will open sometime in the first quarter of 2023. He opened the first Cafe Ruisseau in Playa Vista in 2017 before expanding to a second location in Santa Monica in 2020. The new location will sit between a Color Coat and a vacant space.
Ackah-Miezah is extremely prideful of this family and black-owned coffee shop. On top of the traditional coffee options at this cafe, such as espressos, cold brews, and americanos, Cafe Ruisseau also boasts some house favorites, including blue butterfly lemonade and honey lavender latte. For those who want to bring their coffee home, the coffee shop also offers various blends named after iconic African-American-related pop culture references. Some of their blends include Mamba, named after Kobe Bryant, and Illmatic, named after an album by Nas.
“We’re passionate about coffee, people, culture, and community,” according to the company’s website. “We don’t just feel like coffee is fuel for productivity; we believe that when done properly what ends up in your cup is the fulfillment of a farmer’s hard work and special care, the marriage of our roaster’s science and artistry, and our barista’s detail and personality. All together, culminating in something bespoke and individual for you to consume. So yeah, a bit more than just fuel for your day. As well, we believe that spaces for people to really connect and just be are being replaced by fast impersonal mass-produced mediocrity. We aspire to be the opposite of that. When you visit us, we hope you’ll feel that difference.”
