After 92 years in the Chinatown/ Echo Park area, Eastside Italian Deli is expanding to a second location in Los Feliz, located at 1761 N. Vermont Ave.

The well-respected Italian sandwich spot is finally expanding, with hopes of opening their new restaurant around November 2021, Eater LA first reports. Eastside Italian Deli, which used to be a marketplace, is known for its old-school Italian food and large sandwiches stuffed with various meats and peppers. The restaurant first opened as part of a collection of Italian sandwich shops when downtown Los Angeles had a much more prominent Italian immigration population.

Eastside Italian Deli is now owned and operated by the Angiuli family, who bought the restaurant in 1959. Current co-owner Vito Angiuli says the new location will carry on the legacy and existing menu from the original location. Although the family doesn’t have plans for any drastic changes, they hope the new restaurant will help reach a younger audience while remaining a staple for its loyal customers, many of which are municipal workers.

The new Los Feliz location will be replacing an existing Italian deli, Rocco’s Italian Market and Deli, making the transition easier. Eastside Italian Deli joins a handful of other new restaurants coming to the area, including Goldburger and Nossa. The area will see many more authentic Italian sandwiches, especially East Side Deli’s most popular sandwich, the #7 with hot roast beef and pastrami.
