New York Chicken & Gyro, a beloved halal restaurant in Los Angeles, is getting ready to open new locations in Venice and North Hollywood.
The company, owned and operated by the Mehirdel family, has expanded the restaurant to multiple locations in Los Angeles, including Canoga Park, West LA, Pasadena, and Venice at The Colony. The concept was established in 2017 by brothers Muheb “Moe” Mehirdel, Sam Mehirdel, and Hafiz Mehirdel, alongside their father, Habib Mehirdel. Moe oversees marketing, Sam handles operations, and Hafiz contributes creative ideas for the business.
The company is now preparing for continued expansion across Los Angeles. A representative from the company tells What Now Los Angeles that a new location in North Hollywood is currently under construction and expected to open around September 2025. Before this happens, the brand will open a full-service restaurant in Venice next month at 324 Lincoln Boulevard, taking over the former space occupied by Willie Mae’s, located across the street from its current location.
The menu at New York Chicken & Gyro focuses on classic halal street food. When these two new locations open later this year, customers can expect popular options to include chicken, lamb, or mixed platters served over basmati rice with salad and white sauce. They also offer gyros with chicken, lamb, or falafel wrapped in pita bread. Additional items include burgers, chicken nuggets, and a variety of sides, such as falafel balls, fries, and wings. The white sauce and hot sauce are signature condiments that accompany most meals.
