New York City’s famous Levain Bakery is making its California debut in Larchmont Village.

The beloved cookie shop recently signed a lease for a new space in Larchmont Village, according to a company rep via Eater LA. It’s unknown exactly when the company expects to open this new location, the 12th overall, but they will file permits next week to begin construction as soon as possible. Levain Bakery will likely make its California debut in the second half of 2022, possibly early 2023. The company also has locations in Washington D.C., Boston, Bethesda, Maryland, and an upcoming site coming to Chicago.

Levain Bakery started selling their massive gooey cookies from New York’s Upper West Side in 1995 after a slow day in the bakery, where founders Pam Weekes and Connie McDonald were focused on making bread. On this quiet day, McDonald decided to make a batch of cookies and sold out immediately. Now, these delicious cookies are available nationwide via delivery, pickup, and at various grocery stores across the county.

When Levain Bakery finally opens, it will become a popular dessert destination just north of Central Los Angeles. The company shouldn’t have any problem with competition, as most dessert shops in Larchmont Village are ice cream shops, such as Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream, Salt & Straw, and The Dolly Llama. Levain will also offer other baked goods like breads, brioche pastries, scones, muffins, loaf cakes, and drinks, including coffee drinks, hot chocolate, and tea.
