After abruptly closing all six of its Los Angeles-area outposts at the end of last year due to lease obligations and high operational costs, Sweet Lady Jane is making a major comeback.
It’s been reported by ToddrickAllen and Eater LA that the confectionery’s former Santa Monica and Encino stores now have signs posted to their doors that say, “We are coming back!” And a recent post on the beloved bakery’s Instagram reads, “Get ready: Encino, Calabasas, Beverly Hills, Larchmont, Santa Monica, and West Hollywood,” so it appears the shuttered locations are being brought back to life.
Founded by Jane Lockhart, the sweet lady herself told WNLA that they “will let Los Angeles know soon” official reopening dates for the stores. Lockhart mentioned that the brand is under new ownership, but she still plans to remain involved in the business.
Sweet Lady Jane first opened on Melrose in 1988 with a focus on “using the best quality ingredients and simple technique to create something undeniably delicious and unique.” The bake shop is known for its cakes, pies, tarts, cookies, and, of course, its wildly popular Triple Berry Cake.
