Sightglass early next month will officially open the doors to its new Hollywood storefront, but not in the way the San Francisco-based coffee purveyor originally planned it. Instead of its 150-seat restaurant operation (indoor dining is not currently allowed in LA County), the 13,000-square-foot space in the Sycamore corridor, at 7051 W Willoughby Ave., has been reworked as a specialty marketplace. Under its new name — Sightglass Marketplace and Roastery — the company will unveil its tweaked concept on Saturday, November 7.
“Located in Hollywood’s Sycamore corridor, our specialty marketplace features responsibly-sourced produce, meat, and dairy, prepared foods, beer, and wine, coffee, fresh flowers, house-made pastries, and home goods,” the company wrote of its incoming opening in a newsletter sign-up form offering 20 percent off to new subscribers. “From our mouth-watering croissants and Roman-style pizzas to our directly-sourced and house-roasted coffee, Sightglass is your local specialty market.”
Sightglass had always planned on having a marketplace component at its Los Angeles location, but not to the extent that it was the focus of the massive space. “We’re transitioning into a higher-end market,” a Sightglass staffer on Thursday told What Now Los Angeles over the telephone. Sightglass opened its LA doors with the worst possible timing: on March 14, the day before Mayor Eric Garcetti issued a stay-at-home order. Using its already-built to-go window, the company pivoted to “Sightglass Provisions” and served its coffee from the space to-go.
