After a stint in a building next door at 2623 Main St., mainstay surf and skate shop ZJ Boarding House will return this Spring to its original, newly-upgraded location at the corner of Main Street and Ocean Park Boulevard in Santa Monica.

Renovations to ZJ’s original 4,900 square-foot 2619 Main St. location, where the store was situated for 32 years, include a roof replacement, seismic retrofitting, and “substantial” interior upgrades, according to a press release issued by Boatriders, Inc., ZJ’s parent company. The snowboard and surfboard retailer moved into the next-door building on September 21 after vacating their previous haunt on August 16, according to the store’s website.

“What a silver lining at the end of such a challenging year,” said Todd Roberts, co-founder of ZJ. “ZJ Boarding House is such an integral part of the community and we can’t thank our customers enough for their patience and support of us over the years. Thanks to the hard work of the community, of Boardriders, and of our landlord, we now have a plan in place that will continue to make this space the ultimate destination for everyone looking to have fun in and around the ocean, the mountains and beyond.”

A five-year “go-forward” lease has been signed for the store’s original location.

“Our passion for boards, customer service, and product knowledge continues to grow as we are entering our 30th year of business,” reads the retailer’s website. “We pass on our stoke and knowledge to our customers and strive to assist them in making the best decisions for new gear based on their budget and skill levels. We have a wide selection and cater to the whole family.”
