A mobile coffee shop is expanding and may soon be rolling into nearby neighborhoods in Memphis.

Byway Coffee, owned by Avery Amstutz, is preparing to launch a second trailer, with a debut slated for November.

Amstutz told What Now Memphis that the concept and build-out for Byway began in March 2024 and officially opened that July, with help from close friends in the coffee industry—including Comeback Coffee and JoJo’s Espresso.

“I had a trailer and airstream and decided to turn it into a coffee shop,” she said. “We’ve gone from being open only four days a week to being open seven days a week.”

After receiving a wave of inquiries and realizing the mobile shop couldn’t be in two places at once, Amstutz decided it was time to expand and explore more neighborhoods throughout Memphis.

“We have a pretty strong community in a lot of our locations that we park at on a daily basis and weekly basis, so I’m excited to be able to use the second trailer to explore even more communities in our city at the same time while we continue to pour into the community that we’ve already begun to build,” she said.

According to the Memphis Flyer, the trailer typically stops at Sea Isle Park once or twice a week and sets up at Overton Park on Sundays.

Amstutz said her favorite part of the business is working alongside her managers and baristas to brainstorm new concepts, ideas and recipes.

The team features a new signature menu each month. For May, specialty lattes include Blueberry Cobbler, Banana Bread and Cinnamon Toast Crunch. In June, Byway will introduce a White Peach Latte along with its first dairy-free cold foam—coconut—and a Hershey’s Chocolate cold foam, the outlet reported.

Although Byway doesn’t roast its beans in-house, it offers a custom blend roasted weekly by Comeback Coffee. The medium roast, available for purchase in bags, highlights flavors of strawberry, dark chocolate and walnut, and is crafted from a natural Brazil and natural Colombia co-ferment.

“I think the unique thing that we get to sell to people is the convenience of coming to their neighborhood and the fun outing that is it to go meet up with a coffee trailer, meet your friends and have a cup of coffee to go,” Amstutz said.

Byway Coffee posts its weekly schedule every Sunday on Instagram and Facebook, and daily updates on the following day’s location go live at 5 p.m.
