Craig Blondis, owner of Central BBQ, says it’s too soon to say when the restaurant, which was demolished last year, will re-open on Central Ave. in a brand-new facility.

The new site of Central BBQ is two buildings sharing a common wall — a former Goodwill and Palladio Garden Nursery.

The old Central BBQ, which was demolished when the building was discovered to be unsound, was located adjacent to the new property and will be the new restaurant parking lot.

“We’re going to put a kitchen in the back of (one of) the existing building(s). There is a common wall between the two properties, which we will open up and incorporate both buildings into the dining area for the restaurant,” Blondis tells What Now Memphis.

The new site will be a total of 5,000 square feet, although dining area dimensions and capacity have not yet been determined.

Central BBQ offers all the fixins of Southern barbecue, from Slabs of Ribs (wet, dry, or half & half), Pulled Pork and Beef Brisket, to Home-Cooked Pork Rinds, Slaw, and Mac n’ cheese.

The dessert menu is just as decadent, including Homemade Peanut Butter Pie, NY Cheesecake, Banana Pudding and Five Layer Cake.

“You might have heard us say, ‘Smoke is Our Sauce.’ That’s because we live in the hardwood capital of the world and use hickory and pecan woods, along with our intricate dry rub and a whole lot of patience, to craft the most tender, delicious piece of meat you’ve ever eaten — with or without the sauce,” reads the website.
