A North Carolina-based fast-food chain has its sights set once again on Memphis. Cook Out, a chain focused on American comfort food, has filed papers to open a new regional location on Austin Peay Highway.

Plans submitted to the Memphis and Shelby County Division of Planning and Development show that the restaurant is hoping to open at 3240 Austin Peay Highway in a 1,790 square foot storefront. The site previously housed a Checkers, and local diners will doubtlessly be excited to see signs of life in the building again.

An opening timeline is not currently possible to estimate. Cook Out appears to still be in the early phases of attaining local approvals to set up shop. Should the location come to fruition, it will join four other Memphis Cook Out storefronts.

Cook Out has been on the scene, flipping burgers and serving milkshakes, since 1989. The chain now has more than 300 locations spread across 10 states.
