Fenian’s Pub is ready for another round. The longtime Jackson staple is reopening in its original location under new ownership and with plans for major renovations.
The pub, located at 901 E. Fortification St., closed in September 2024 after nearly 30 years in business. Earlier this year, real estate developer William Lake purchased the property from Sean Cupit, president of Killarney S. Corp., according to filings with the Mississippi Secretary of State.
Lake plans to give the building a fresh exterior and demolish the brown house next door. He secured demolition permits from the Belhaven Heights Historic District to clear the structure.
In its place, Lake plans to build a fenced greenspace with a live music stage, outdoor seating, a walk-up bar and possibly cornhole boards, according to the Clarion Ledger. He also plans to expand the pub’s deck along the side and back of the building, adding a staircase and ramp to connect it with the new yard.
Inside, Lake plans to keep the layout largely the same but will enlarge the main bar and open the back room for better flow. He also wants to install TVs along the back wall for entertainment.
The food menu will shift to a smaller selection of classic bar fare, including burgers, hot dogs, chicken tenders and wings. Lake also plans to partner with neighboring pizza shop Pizza Shack.
Behind the kitchen, which will remain in place, sits an additional room. Lake is still deciding how to use the space but is considering either an office or a small liquor store called “Fenian’s Package Store.”
Ridgeland-based Seabold Architectural Studio is handling the renovations.
While Lake has not announced an official reopening date, he told the outlet he aims to welcome customers back by the end of the year.
What Now Memphis reached out to Lake for comment but has not yet received a response. This story may be updated.
