A Memphis restaurant space is currently facing an uncertain fate, with the possibility of reinvention on the horizon. Following a severe fire, Mulan Asian Bistro has shut down its Midtown location but all hope is not lost. Fresh Hospitality, a combination real estate and restaurant group, owns the property and is considering opening a concept in it, reports the Memphis Business Journal.

The building is located at 2149 Young Avenue-certainly a desirable spot. Of course, relatively extensive repairs will be required to bring the space up to restaurant standards; the damages were exhaustive enough to make Mulan Asian Bistro close shop permanently instead of temporarily pausing operations while the building was fixed. The scope and cost of the project will heavily factor into what happens next.

J. Michael Bodner, the vice president of Fresh Hospitality’s real estate firm, Bodner Investment Group, explains that the group is currently determining how to proceed, saying: “We are assessing damages and the cost to repair. [It’s possible we’ll] open a restaurant if economic conditions are good.”

What Now Memphis has reached out to Fresh Hospitality for further information, including what brands are potentially in contention for the space. The group has an impressive portfolio of diverse concepts, including Alfresco Pasta, Big Bad Breakfast, Flyway Brewing Company, and Martin’s Bar-B-Que Joint.
