Last year, What Now Memphis reported that the Happy Mexican in downtown Memphis would be rebranded as Second Street Tacos & Tequila. Less than a year later, the taco cantina has shuttered, paving the way for a fresh concept under new ownership.

In its stead at 385 S 2nd St, Anthony Curry will launch Happy Memphis, a new eatery he describes as “very diverse,” incorporating “many styles of food for everyone.” To craft the menu, Curry has assembled a team of certified chefs specializing in Spanish and Mexican cuisine.

“Memphis is a high market for rancheros, quesadillas, burritos, street tacos and queso dip. I also have chefs with experience in Mexican cuisine,” Curry told What Now Memphis.

Happy Memphis is scheduled to welcome guests in April or May of 2025.
