A popular Millington cafe is preparing to pour out steaming cups of java for Memphis coffee aficionados, while winning over local foodies with its expansive menu of freshly prepared dishes. Jay’s Coffee & Cuisine is on deck to to debut its second location, this time in Downtown Memphis, reports Commercial Appeal.
Memphis locals will doubtless be excited to see activity in the 122 Gayoso Avenue storefront. The space has been vacant since 2024, when Tamp & Tap closed its doors. When, precisely, locals can stop into the storefront for a cup of coffee and a snack remains to be seen; Jay’s intends to hold a soft opening at some point in November, with an as-of-yet-to-be-determined grand opening to follow.
Jay’s is opening as part of the Downtown Memphis Commission’s Table Ready, an initiative designed to help fill vacant storefronts with restaurants, where the Commission covers part of the rent and utilities for a year, allowing restaurateurs to test run the spaces more securely.
Jay’s Coffee & Cuisine comes to Memphis with a built-in fanbase. The Millington favorite has been delighting customers since entering the local dining scene in April of 2023. It’s stated ethos ensures it will be a hit in its new home-to whit: “At Jay’s, we are passionate about using whole, fresh ingredients to create savory meals and snacks that will delight your taste buds. Our aim is to offer a pleasant and welcoming environment where you can interact, unwind, and feel at home while savoring the finest cuisine, coffee, and ambiance in town.”
Jay’s menu offers plenty besides the expected coffee drinks and pastries.The cafe holds “Soul Food Sundays” and “Taco Tuesdays”. The breakfast selection is vast, featuring everything from biscuits and gravy to breakfast quesadillas.
