Owner Bret Dunnaway plans to open a Jersey Mike’s location at 7801 Winchester Rd. in Memphis, with hopes to be up and running by June.
The newest Jersey Mike’s is Dunnaway’s tenth location. He also operates sites in Mississippi and Alabama. Having been awarded the Memphis market, he is currently exploring sites for more shops in Southaven, Midtown and West Memphis.
The new location just south of Germantown will open in a former Jimmy John’s sandwich shop. The site is currently in the process of obtaining permit approval from the city before undergoing renovations.
“Hopefully we’ll get the permits sooner than later. We’re shooting to have a permit within 60 days, and if that’s the case, because it was a Jimmy John’s, it shouldn’t take more than 30 days to build it out,” Dunnaway tells What Now Memphis.
Each store provides the local community with approximately 20 jobs, and each one participates in Jersey Mike’s March Month of Giving, culminating in one day — the last Wednesday of March — when 100% of total sales (not just profits) is donated to charity.
Fan favorites and number-one bestsellers on the Jersey Mike’s menu include #8 (Club Sub) and #13 (The Original Italian). But if you ask Dunnaway, the best sandwich isn’t on the menu. A combination of #43 (Chipotle Cheese Steak) and #56 (Big Kahuna Cheese Steak), it’s secret menu item #99.
