Changes are on the horizon for a local bubble tea spot that opened just last year.

According to recently filed city permits, Kung Fu Tea’s sole Memphis location at 4000 Summer Ave is set to undergo a transformation, merging with Taiwan-based chicken franchise TKK Fried Chicken.

Ly Touch—the franchisee of Kung Fu Tea—could not be reached for comment, and an employee at the restaurant neither confirmed nor denied the news.

Kung Fu Tea was founded in Queens, New York in 2010, while TKK Fried Chicken was established in Taipei, Taiwan in 1974. The two brands have collaborated on several joint locations since their partnership was announced a few years ago.

TKK is known for its signature Taiwanese-style crispy fried chicken, featuring a thin, crunchy skin. The menu also includes a variety of sides such as sweet potato fries, mashed potatoes, chicken curds, and a unique dish called ‘Kwa Kwa Bao’—sticky rice wrapped in a fried chicken skin.

Kung Fu Tea is expected to continue offering its signature milk teas, yogurt teas, and other Taiwanese-inspired beverages alongside the new menu from TKK.

It’s unclear how long the renovation will take or if Kung Fu Tea will temporarily close during the transition.
