Beale Street Blues Company has announced it is transferring ownership of two of its restaurants back to the Peters Family, the original owners.
The parent company announced at the beginning of the month that Lafayette’s Music Room and Moondance Grill are being sold to the Peters Family, led by Tommy Peters’ daughter, Sara Fay Egan, according to Commercial Appeal. While she still serves as CEO of Beale Street Blues Company, obtaining ownership helps the family maintain control with the goal of upholding Tommy’s legacy as a dedicated businessman, music lover, and advocate for local musicians.
“Beale Street Blues Company transitioned ownership of Moondance-Thornwood, LLC and Lafayette’s Music Room, LLC to the family of the late Liz Peters,” according to a statement released from Eagan.
Tommy Peters started his legacy in Memphis by opening the first B.B. King Blues Club on Beale Street in 1991, contributing to the area’s overall boost in tourism. While there are still two locations in Memphis and one in Montgomery, at one point, there were sites in Orlando and Nashville. Following his first restaurant, Tommy and Liz Peters re-opened Lafayette’s Music Room in Overton Square in 2014. Five years later, the two opened Moondance as a new fine-dining concept.
Unfortunately, Peter and Liz both passed away in 2021 due to Covid-19. Peter served as the founder, president, and CEO of Beale Street Blues Company until his passing. The parent company will maintain ownership of B.B. King’s Blues Club and Itta Bena, the latter having locations in Memphis and Montgomery, AL.
