Memphis health enthusiasts, get excited! A chain that proves you don’t need to choose flavor over nutrition has plans to extend its regional empire. Local franchisees Jack Speed and Amy Lupo are extending their Playa Bowls franchising plans after the opening of their most recent locations, reports Memphis Business Journal.

The hospitality power duo opened their most recent Playa Bowls in the Edge District on February 7 at 732 Madison Avenue. Lupo and Speed have been in the business since 2024, when they opened their first Playa Bowls location in East Memphis.

Speed and Lupo originally signed on to open three storefronts, however customers have proven so enthusiastic that the pair foresee at least 2 more locations on the horizon; Speed states: “The quality of the product has us convinced that we can develop this entire territory — the entire Memphis area and multiple stores will be needed.”

What Now Memphis has reached out to the franchisees for further details, including potential future neighborhoods where Playa Bowls may be welcome.

Playa Bowls is a healthy alternative for fast-casual diners. The concept was founded in 2014 and has been a heavy-hitter in the acai bowl push healthy diners have been enjoying.
