Pizza royalty is making its way to Hernando. Lost Pizza Co., the state’s 8 year reigning best pizza champ, missed its initial summer opening projection, but construction is underway, progress is being made, and hot slices will be ready for diners soon, reports Commercial Appeal.

The pizza chain’s 16th Mississippi location at 2445 U.S. 51 has enjoyed remarkable progress; the building has fresh brick and new lighting and signage. A precise opening timeline is not yet available, however Lost Pizza Co.’s Hernando social media team has been very active on the restaurant’s Facebook page, offering a few clues as to what is in store, and approximately when. 2 weeks ago management was asked about a soft opening, and said “not yet but we’re getting there”, suggesting fresh slices are not too far away.

In addition to the pies promised by the name, Lost Pizza Co. will feature Delta Hot Tamales, prepared fresh daily.

Lost Pizza Co. tossed its first pie in Indianolo in 2007. The website offers a glimpse of what’s in store for future Hernando regulars, saying: “We want your dining experience to be as fun as getting to go see the bearded lady, riding a camel while swallowing a sword at the state fair when you were 10 years old (yeah it’s that cool!) We make every pizza with pride using only the finest and freshest ingredients! We make almost everything fresh, in-house, every day. “
