Jeremy Gattie, franchisee of nine Zaxby’s locations, is slated to replace an old Backyard Burgers location in Memphis with the casual fried chicken chain, according to permits filed with the city.

“We are very excited about getting the opportunity to be in this area of Memphis,” Gattie told What Now Memphis in a prepared statement. “This will be our 2nd Drive Thru only location in Shelby County and only the 4th Drive Thru Only location in the Zaxby’s system. We opened the first one back in 2021 and people really seem to love the ease of the drive-thru and pick up window for easy grab-n-go. We think the Perkins location will do very well.”

The old Back Yard Burgers located on 436 Perkins EXTD will be soon be renovated into the Zaxby’s Pick Up and Go with an opening slated for fall 2023, Gattie said by way of a company spokesperson.

Zaxby’s is an Athen’s, GA-founded fast-casual restaurant offering chicken tenders, a selection of sides, fried chicken sandwiches and salads.

The upcoming Pick Up and Go location isn’t the only planned Zaxby’s for Gattie. “We are also building a new location on Stage Rd in Bartlett,” the franchisee said. “This location should be open by Fall of 2023 as well.”
