Diners across the globe have long been enchanted by Mexican cuisine. Memphis residents are not immune to the distinctive and delicious fare; local foodies have demonstrated a hunger for tacos, burritos, and quesadillas. A new restaurant is giving local Mexican food fans reason to rejoice; Ay Mama Mexican Grill & Cantina is accruing the permits necessary to open a home in the area.

The restaurant is taking over the storefront at 1653 Sycamore View Road that previously housed Ruby Tuesday. The certificate of occupancy filed with the Memphis and Shelby county Division of Planning and Development shows that Ay Mama will occupy 5,700 square feet and will have an occupancy load of 140.

There is not currently a great deal of information available about the concept. Ay Mama does not yet have a digital footprint, however submitted forms offer some basic insight. In addition to Mexican cuisine, the restaurant will have a bar component and will serve alcohol. What Now Memphis has reached out to ownership for details and will update readers as move information becomes available.

Ay Mama does not have a publicly available opening date yet, however it is steadily progressing through the permitting process. It received its commercial electrical permit on November 17, bringing diners one step closer to enjoying the restaurant’s fare.
