A Mediterranean cafe in Germantown has closed its doors, but its story isn’t over.
According to The Daily Memphian, Petra Cafe shuttered its location at 6641 Poplar Ave in Carrefour at Kirby Woods on Friday, December 20, 2024.
Owners Jamal and Lisa Douba—who opened the cafe in 2001—said they had no choice but to close their last remaining location. At its peak, Petra Cafe operated nine outposts across Memphis.
The decision came after Swanky’s and FedEx, the final multi-year lease tenants in the shopping center, announced their closures. For the past two years, Petra Cafe had been renting month-to-month at the center.
Though the Doubas were initially told they could stay until October 2025, they received a notice two months ago requiring them to vacate sooner to make way for The Standard Germantown.
But the husband-and-wife team is determined to find a new home for Petra Cafe in the Germantown or Collierville suburbs. They’re encouraging patrons to call the restaurant at 901-754-4440 with any location suggestions.
Petra Cafe is known for its made-to-order Mediterranean gyros, falafel, stuffed grape leaves, paninis, salads, and more.
The Doubas were unavailable for comment. Stay tuned for updates as they search for a new space.
