After more than a year of anticipation, a popular Germantown eatery is preparing to make its triumphant return to the area. Petra Cafe shut its neighborhood doors in 2024 but 2026 sees the concept making its comeback with a new lease, reports Commercial Appeal.

The restaurant is bringing its signature Mediterranean fare to a 1789 Kirby Parkway storefront. A certificate of occupancy filed with the Memphis and Shelby County Division of Planning and Development shows that the new space will provide Petra Cafe with 2,490 square feet of space with an occupant load of 65.

Ownership broke the news of the upcoming location via a social media post saying: “Petra Cafe has a new lease!!!! After a very long year of waiting and looking, God has placed us in a new facility!”. While the update doesn’t provide a specific opening date, it does assure Germantown foodies that delicious gyros, salads, paninis, and deli sandwiches are awaiting them in the not-too-distant future. The post states: “We hope to be open by late February. I can’t wait to see my Petra family again.”

Founded and run by husband-and-wife team Jamal and Lisa Douba, Petra Cafe first entered the Memphis culinary scene in 2001. The concept developed a fan-following through its simple but enticing promise of “Delicious lunches featuring gyro’s, panini’s, deli sandwiches and salads. Dinner feature specialty entrees that cannot be beat.”
