Memphis-area residents excited to welcome a Texas cult-favorite will need to exercise a little more patience than initially anticipated. Beloved convenience store, gas station, and quick-service food establishment Buc-ee’s is still coming to West Memphis, but its arrival is still a couple of years away, reports the Northwest Arkansas Democrat Gazette.

The storefront, being erected on a 34 acre plot on the eastbound side of Interstate 40, between Missouri and Seventh streets, was originally set to be open this year. Unspecified delays have led Buc-ee’s to project that the concept will now be customer-ready in June of 2028.

West Memphis is making some alterations in order to welcome the beloved Texas institution. The Arkansas Department of Transportation is widening a road and putting in an additional ramp to accommodate the traffic the venue is sure to cultivate.

Buc-ee’s has inspired an ardent fan-following through its delicious made-to-order fare and impeccably clean bathrooms. The chain announced its West Memphis location in September of 2024, and while locals may be feeling a sense of impatience at the newly announced delay, officials are certain Buc-ee’s arrival will be more than worth the wait. Alongside easy access to Beaver nuggets and brisket sandwiches, the convenience store will also be bringing in an estimated $3.1 million in taxes and creating approximately 225 full-time jobs.
