Late last year, What Now Memphis reported that the brothers behind two local Tekila restaurants were planning to expand with a new upscale concept. Now, more details have emerged.

Alex and Jose Gomez’s upcoming restaurant, A Fuego Vivo, will take over the former site of Carrabba’s Italian Grill at 5110 Poplar Ave in East Memphis. The 6,400-square-foot restaurant will seat 230 guests, according to recent city permits filed by the Gomez brothers.

Jose confirmed this news with What Now Memphis, noting that he will manage the restaurant for the first few months until the team secures long-term management.

The name A Fuego Vivo—which translates to “over high heat” or “on high flame”—commonly refers to techniques like sautéing, stir-frying, or grilling, where food is rapidly cooked at high temperatures to achieve a seared exterior while retaining moisture inside.

While the duo is still “finalizing the concept,” they are in the process of bringing in chefs from both Argentina and Mexico, said Jose.

Along with their sister Maria Gama, the Gomez brothers also operate Tekila Modern Mexican in Southaven and Tekila Mexican Cuisine—a Mexican steakhouse—at the former Nineteenth Century Club in Midtown.

A Fuego Vivo is tentatively scheduled to debut in three to four months. Jose mentioned he will share more details—including floor plans, renderings, and the menu—in the coming weeks, so stay tuned for updates.
