A pair of enterprising restaurateur cousins is getting ready to bring their own distinctive flavor to the Memphis baking scene this summer. Hospitality vets Mustapha Mustapha and Mounir Mourabi will be serving up Middle Eastern-inspired treats in their new concept, Tripolis Sweets, later this year, reports Daily Memphian.
Mustapha and Mounir will be bringing the tastes of Lebanon to 1250 North Germantown Parkway. Mustapaha kindly set aside some time to speak with What Now Memphis about filling a void in the local bakery community, saying “There is no such thing in Memphis that serves this kind of sweet variety. There are some shops with limited options, but this has more variety, more authentic Lebanese sweets known to Tripoli. We’ll also have some Arabic ice cream and shaved ice that is not available in Memphis.”
Mustapha explains that while Tripolis Sweets will not have a physical menu to offer customers, the bakery will have plenty of delectable options for visitors to choose from, describing the treats as: “Middle eastern sweets, pastries, bakery products. We won’t have a menu to hand to customers, we’re going to be displaying the products and having the pricing per piece or per pound.”
Future regulars are in good hands with Mustapha and Mounir; both are well-versed in the hospitality world. Mustapha is the owner of Sam’s Main Street Eatery Downtown and Mounir owns La Roche Lebanese Cuisine in Cooper-Young.
While Mustapha anticipates many patrons taking their purchases to go, Tripolis will have seating where customers can immediately savor their snacks. The bakery will have between 3 and 4 tables with around 4 chairs per table, ensuring that visitors who simply cannot wait to enjoy the concept’s cuisine will have a comfortable place to take a bite out of the tempting creations.
Memphis foodies won’t have to wait too long to sample Tripolis Sweets’ fare; while a precise opening date is not yet available, Mustapha and Mounir anticipate being customer ready at some point between April 20 and May 1.
