Azul Modern Mexican Cuisine is coming to Coral Gables, taking over the former Kao Sushi & Grill space.

Azul of Coral Gables Corp. has recently filed permit applications with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation to open the restaurant at 127 Miracle Mile. An opening date has not yet been announced.

Azul won’t be an entirely new concept. Owner Franklin Andrade is behind Class Azul Modern Mexican Cuisine, which opened its first location in Cape Coral in January 2025. The upscale concept focuses on freshly prepared Mexican cuisine, with recipes drawing inspiration from different regions of Mexico.

The menu includes ceviches, enchiladas, fajitas, quesadillas, birria dishes, street tacos, burritos, chimichangas, and nachos, along with more substantial meat and seafood dishes.

Andrade has more than 15 years of experience in Mexican restaurants and previously helped open more than a dozen restaurants in North Florida before branching out with his own concept.  The Coral Gables restaurant represents an expansion into the Miami market for Andrade and his partners and puts the concept in the heart of one of the city’s busiest dining districts.
