Cotoa is on the move! The Ecuadorian eatery just premiered in late September, and now it’s expanding to North Miami to move into a larger venue this fall, according to the Miami New Times. The Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant is expected to open at 1111 NE 125th St., Ste. 200.
What Now Miami reached out to Cotoa owner and founder Chef Alejandra Espinoza to find out more about the exciting move. Unfortunately, we did not hear back by the time of this publication. But it’s quite understandable.
The brand is run by Somos Hospitality Group. The plan is to move Cotoa into a larger, 80-seat space.
“We are an Ecuadorian hospitality company committed to elevating the standards in the industry,” the Cotoa website reads.
“With a passion for excellence, we strive to redefine Ecuador’s food and beverage industry by crafting high-quality, innovative culinary concepts and products.”
Chef Espinoza opened Somos in Quito, Ecuador, in 2019, and it quickly earned recognition as one of the best restaurants in the country and a World’s 50 Best award winner. Espinoza first introduced the Cotoa concept to the United States at The B1oom, a downtown Miami food hall. Cotoa transitioned into its first standalone, intimate 24-seat brick-and-mortar space in North Miami last spring.

Last year, Cotoa made history as the first and only Ecuadorian restaurant in the United States to be featured in the Michelin Guide, helping elevate Ecuadorian cuisine in the American culinary landscape. Chef Espinoza was also named a United Nations Tourism Special Ambassador of Gastronomy.
“Crafting exceptional dining experiences, SOMOS Hospitality Group aims to redefine Ecuador’s culinary scene,” the brand’s website reads.
“We’re on a mission to elevate local flavors, setting new standards in food and service, and take Ecuador’s culinary reputation to new heights.”
Cotoa acts as a “love letter” to Ecuadorian heritage, blending flavors from Ecuador’s coast, highlands, and Amazon. Signature dishes include Pan de yuca, cassava muchines, mahi mahi ceviche with peanut-coconut sauce, and snapper encocado.
Try it all out for yourself when Coata moves into its new home at 1111 NE 125th St., Ste. 200, this fall.
