Bernard Cabaret Gourmand, promised to be one of Montreal’s most immersive burlesque dining experiences, is getting ready to debut in Montreal, located at 936 St Catherine St E.
The new concept is set to open in Spring 2025, according to the company’s Instagram account. Owner Jean-Francois Rondeau tells What Now Montreal that he expects to open Bernard Cabaret Gourmand on April 17, offering a three-hour-long, impressive experience paired with what he calls a “Chaos-Style” menu. Customers can expect 15 different performers, with the dinner being part of the show. Rondeau tells What Now that each course will be inspired by the previous act to create an all-encompassing experience,
When this new concept opens, the menu will feature dishes from around the world. Rondeau tells What Now that customers can expect a little bit of French-inspired dishes, Italian-inspired dishes, and a handful of Asian dishes, such as Japanese, Chinese, and some Korean. This food at Bernard Cabaret Gourmand will be enjoyed while the performers are conducting their acts. Because the space isn’t very large, Rondeau says the team created specific placements for the performers, causing them to perform near the customers.
While this project has been in progress for almost a year, Rondeau says the team has faced delays due to the building’s history, mainly through permitting and construction. This three-story, 18,396-square-foot building was initially built as a bank in 1920. The space still showcases its historic charm with an eye-catching façade, marble floors, and 16-foot ceilings with gold leaf accents. Sitting at a prime corner where Sainte-Catherine Street E meets Saint-Timothée Street, it’s next to L’Olympia theatre and beside the UQAM campus, making it an excellent spot for the debut of Bernard Cabaret Gourmand. Plus, it’s super accessible and conveniently positioned between the Beaudry and UQAM metro stations.
