Entrepreneur Hannah Schneider is bringing Kettner Coffee back to the city this summer. It has plans to open in plant and lifestyle brand Jade & Clover at 815 Old Division Street this summer, according to a release.
Kettner Coffee has been absent from the Nashville scene since it sold its East Nashville flagship in 2022. Previously, Schneider had built the brand up to three full-service cafes, but she relocated with her family to Los Angeles after the pandemic and sold the business.
Kettner Coffee is known for its high-quality beans and its welcoming atmosphere. Customers can expect the return of its bold, playful brand voice, with cups featuring phrases like “will trade cold heart for hot coffee” and “high standards low morals.”
Giselle Ruggeberg opened Jade & Clover almost a decade ago, expanding the Dallas-based brand to multiple locations. It features custom plant installations and a plant bar that allows customers to build their own arrangements and terrarium.
“My goal has always been dedicated to the customer and how they felt when they walked through our doors, so partnering with Giselle and Jade & Clover made total sense for Kettner. We both come from the hospitality space and value customer experience and inclusivity over everything,” Schneider said in the release. “The Gulch is an ideal place to reintroduce this brand that I built from the ground up to a whole new crowd of coffee lovers. Popping up in such a bustling neighborhood is so exciting and partnering with another female business owner makes this next chapter that much sweeter! I’m thrilled to have such a welcoming space to call Kettner’s new home. I hope we can make you laugh, make you smile or just be a few minutes of positivity throughout your day.”
Schneider told What Now Nashville that she and Ruggeberg were introduced by a mutual friend and Ruggeberg expressed interest in having a cafe experience within her boutique. The conversation got the ball rolling on the idea of bringing a Kettner to Jade & Clover.
“What better way to explore the world of Jade & Clover and to fall in love with our natural offerings than with a cup of coffee in hand?” Ruggeberg said in the release. “I am now a proud Nashville resident and am excited about the coffee culture this city has. We offer an immersive, sensory boutique experience and collaborating with another local woman-owned operator is a dream come true.”
Kettner Coffee will offer rotating espresso options, featuring beans from local spots like 8th and Roast. Other offerings will include matcha and pastries, with gluten-free and vegan options. There will be limited indoor and outdoor seating options.
Schneider said that this partnership came as a welcome surprise to her — and she is excited to see where the brand goes next.
“It’s been so fun to play with the branding again and redesign the space. If there’s a need or space that makes sense, we’re certainly open to all opportunities,” Schneider said. “My focus is entirely on the guest experience — there are hundreds of places you can get coffee. We want to make you laugh, or just be a tiny piece of your day that made you feel good. All I care about is that you feel better when leave Kettner. You know you’ll have a tasty treat waiting for you whenever you come in, and no matter what you look like, who you love, or where you came from — you are always welcome in our doors.”
Aside from Kettner Coffee, Schneider has found success in media relations and communications. She built digital and creative agency BRND House, which she sold in 2023.
