While a combination dog park-bar might have seemed crazy a few years ago, the concept is becoming popular around the country, and one such establishment called The Dog House is slated to open in Mid-City in February. Located at 2736 Banks St., The Dog House will be membership-based and dog owners will have to show proof of vaccinations before they can join. Staff at The Dog House will also assess member dogs for temperament, likely weeding out any dogs that have a hard time playing well with others.

The Dog House is expected to be similar to other dog park-bars. According to renderings published by Axios New Orleans, members can bring their dog to a fenced-off play area and keep an eye on them from an adjacent seating area, where food and drinks can be enjoyed. Dog owners can join their pets in the dog park, but they can only bring in drinks, not food. Construction on The Dog House is currently underway on the lot on Banks Street. According to the Axios story, owner Kelly Robinson plans to expand the park to a larger size at a later date.
