Ground was broken in Gonzales earlier this week for a new Sonny’s BBQ location at 781 Louisiana 30 W. According to reports, the ACG BBQ franchisee behind the planned Sonny’s restaurant is targeting next summer for an opening date.
The upcoming location in Ascension Parish would be the second in Louisiana and it’s expected to cover 4,500 square feet of space, with a seating capacity of 150 people. Company officials have said there will also be a drive-thru window available for pickup orders. The company has made a name for itself selling pulled pork, pulled chicken, and brisket, all of which are made by smoking meat low and slow. The menu at the Baton Rouge location also includes a range of uniquely Southern dishes, including fried okra, chicken wing with Alabama white sauce, and homestyle banana pudding. However, the ACG BBQ franchisee is also known for its Random Acts of BBQ events, in which a deserving person or group receives a surprise barbecue spread. The franchisee currently has locations in Louisiana, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, and Mississippi. Catering for large parties is also available.
