Not to be confused with a certain animated series, Bub’s Burgers (now called Bub’s NOLA) rode pandemic-era popularity as a pop-up to a brick-and-mortar location alongside Banks Street Bar in Mid-City. Now, the upstart burger joint is planning to open a second location Uptown at 5031 Freret St. According to NOLA.com, the second location will be smaller than the first and focus primarily on takeout. It will also reportedly maintain a tight menu of its signature smash burgers.

The Bub’s model is premised on the idea of doing something simple yet well-executed. The menu only features a handful of burgers topped mostly with classics like bacon, cheddar cheese, mushrooms and caramelized onions. Daily special burgers tend to be topped with more whimsical ingredients like hummus, pineapple or pimento cheese. There are also small sections of the menu for other sandwiches and classic burger joint sides. Fans of Bub’s also love the current location’s kitschy, laid-back vibe.
