Known for its combination of traditional jazz and piping hot beignets, Café Beignet is planning to open a location on the ground floor of the Sheraton New Orleans Hotel at 532 Canal St. According to permit filings with the City of New Orleans, non-structural renovations that include new storefronts and awnings will result in more than 3,100 sq. feet of dining space with a capacity for 216 guests. The project is expected to be completed in February 2025, and it will become the fifth Café Beignet location, all of which can be found in the French Quarter. What Now New Orleans has reached out for comment.
First opened in 1990, Café Beignet is well-known to locals and tourists alike for its beignets, chicory coffee, and live traditional music. The Bourbon Street location is the only one that remains open into the evening, and it features bronze statues of Al Hirt, Fats Domino, and other local music legends.
