Fresh off an appearance on the Food Network show Superchef Grudge Match, chef and restauranteur Danny Wilson is set to open and operate Var’s Pizza at 3030 Perkins Rd. in Baton Rouge in the former Unleaded BBQ . The new Capital Region pizza spot will offer New York-style pies made with artisan dough sourced from the nearby St. Bruno Bread Co., a rapidly rising Baton Rouge bakery. According to a report from 225 Magazine,  an opening date is set for July 7.

Wilson has been previewing pies for Var’s menu on his personal Instagram page. Some pies you know and love: cheese-and-pepperoni, meat lover’s, and Margherita. Other previewed pizzas had Wilson flexing his creative muscles, with toppings like boudin, cracklins, figs, and Nashville hot chicken pieces. Beverage options will include soft drinks and about two dozen beers, with 12 beer available on draft. With tattoos a-plenty, thick black glasses and an almost-vulgar Instagram handle, Wilson cuts a striking figure and his personality will be on full display at the new pizza spot. The 225 story said the décor would include graffiti from a local artist and rock iconography.
