Since opening in the late ‘80s, Crazy Johnnie’s was a restaurant in Metairie that made a name for itself over the decades with delicious, affordably priced steak po-boys. Unfortunately, the rising cost of steak made the model untenable, forcing the restaurant to close in 2014. But Crazy Johnnie’s popularity lives on, and a family relative of the original owners is preparing to reopen the restaurant at 3560 Veterans Memorial Blvd. in Metairie.

Mike Landry kicked off the Crazy Johnnie’s revival last year by launching a line of sauces and seasoning blends from the restaurant. That led to a popular po-boy pop-up in Jefferson Parish. Now, the momentum has led to an ownership group led by Landry renovating the former City Bar Metairie, located just down the street from the original Crazy Johnnie’s. According to NOLA.com, the new iteration of Crazy Johnnie’s will open this fall. What Now New Orleans has contacted ownership for more information.
