They say New Orleans is the northernmost Caribbean city, and so it makes sense to see Cuban food well represented in the city’s restaurant scene. When it opens this summer at 2511 Jena St. in Uptown, El Cafecito Cubano will add another option that’s modest, but well-pedigreed. The small sandwich café is being created by Fredo Nogueira, a co-owner of the popular High Hat Café just a stone’s throw away.

According to permit documents filed with the City of New Orleans, El Cafecito will open with a menu of classic Cuban pressed sandwiches, including Cubano, Medianoche, and Ropa Vieja sandwiches. There are also a few classic sides, like avocado salad and black beans and rice. Soft drinks are also available. What Now New Orleans has reached out for more information.
