Empire State Delicatessen Opening a Location on Oak Street

The classic New York-style deli has been serving the CBD since 2004.

After serving the Central Business District for two decades and counting, Empire State Delicatessen is preparing to open a location in Uptown at 8201 Oak St. According to a permit filing with the City of New Orleans, an opening date is set for January 2025. Deli owner Paul Tufaro is a New York City native who moved to New Orleans in the ‘90s and eventually opened Empire State Deli in 2004 at 447 St. Charles Ave. Over the years, the deli made a name for itself with nearby office workers and visiting tourists alike for its classic hot and cold sandwiches. Wraps, salads, soups, and occasional specials like red beans and rice or catfish and fries are available. Beverage options include a wide range of soft drinks and alcoholic beverages. The deli prides itself on offering quality products, including the premium Boar’s Head brand of deli meats and cheeses.
