Opened in 2011 and closed this past August, the NOPD officer-founded Blue Dot Donuts would have been the longest-running dad joke in New Orleans if it hadn’t been for the amazing donuts that built up a cult following for the Mid-City donut shop. People mourning the closing of Blue Dot Donuts have something to celebrate as a new donut shop is popping up in its place at 4301 Canal St.
Founded by Blue Dot fan Thomas Matthews, Not Another Donut Café will be selling hand-crafted donuts when it opens in December. Matthews had been planning to open his own donut shop when he learned Blue Dot would be closing, according to NOLA.com. Having a personal connection to owner Zach Menicucci, Matthews was able to secure the space and hit the ground running. In addition to glazed beignets, breakfast plates, and breakfast sandwiches, Not Another Don’t Café will bring back the apple fritters and maple bacon bars that help to build Blue Dot’s massive cult following.
