An Insomnia Cookies is bringing its late-night baked goods to Downtown Lafayette, first reported by Developing Lafayette. The cookie shop is headed for 505 Jefferson Street, in a space that formerly held DBR Designs, an interior design studio that moved to Youngsville in 2025.
The upcoming Insomnia Cookies will be the sixth in Louisiana and the first in Lafayette. The cookie shop generally anchors itself to colleges, capturing that market of up-late, sleep-deprived college students. Insomnias are located near LSU’s campus, Tulane’s campus, and McNeese State University’s campus. In fact, the upcoming Insomnia in Lafayette is a 15-minute walk from the University of Louisiana Lafayette’s campus.
Insomnia’s business model makes sense, given its origins. In 2003, Insomnia Cookies founder Seth Berkowitz started a late-night cookie delivery service out of his University of Pennsylvania college dorm to address an urgent demand and shocking lack of supply of late-night snack options. The first brick-and-mortar Insomnia Cookies was founded in 2006 in Syracuse, New York — yes, it’s by Syracuse University.
Over its two decades in operation, Insomnia’s formula hasn’t changed much. Perhaps they nailed it on the first try, or perhaps a cookie craving at 2:09 a.m. doesn’t lend itself to browsing an extensive menu. Customers can expect a roster of tried-and-true cookies, with a few seasonal alterations, to keep you warm on a late night. For a more decadent treat, you can add a scoop of ice cream on top of your cookie. If you’re feeling like a king, you can go for their cookie ice cream sandwich which, to be fair, is just the ice cream option with a second cookie on top.
Insomnia Cookies in Lafayette has not announced an opening date.
