Mid-City has long been a hot spot for Middle Eastern food, and this part of the city is set to welcome another exciting option called Cafe Levant at 4641 S. Carrollton Ave. Owner Oday Taha recently told What Now New Orleans that the café’s food menu will feature “quick bites” with both American and Middle Eastern flavors. As for the latter, the menu will highlight fatayer, which are filled pies made with spinach, cheese, or meat. The café will also have musakhan rolls, Middle Eastern “spring rolls” filled with caramelized onions and shredded chicken. Beverage options will include a full espresso bar, a selection of teas, and non-alcoholic beverages. An opening date is tentatively set for the end of August.

The new cafe comes from the family behind the successful Mona’s Café nearby. That cafe is undergoing significant renovations, which include enclosing the patio to make it climate-controlled. The new Mona’s Café will also have a dedicated area for takeout and delivery drivers.
