A new bar and lounge with live entertainment is being planned for 1600 Basin St., according to permit filings with the City of New Orleans. The Treme location used to be home to The Well, which was a local spot known for strong drinks, DJs, trivia nights, live music, and chill vibes. What Now New Orleans has reached out for comment, but ownership declined to provide additional details.

Plans to open the new bar and lounge on Basin Street come amidst new plans to revitalize the nearby Louis Armstrong Park and its defunct Municipal Auditorium. In a landmark agreement between City Hall and Treme residents’ the Save Our Soul Coalition, the auditorium will be converted into a cultural museum, marketplace, performance venue, and other cultural spaces. According to the Times-Picayune, the dilapidated auditorium is slated to undergo major renovations using a $38 million grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
