The former Prytania Oaks Hotel has been undergoing major renovation, as a new hotel with a bar and café is planned for the location at 1618 Prytania St. The names “Zula Mae” and “Blackbird” have appeared as potential names. What Now New Orleans has reached out to the ownership group to get additional information but has not received a response.

According to a job posting on SimplyHired, the hotel will be operated by the Groogrux investment group, and it will provide a luxury lifestyle experience that blends “the rich tapestry of the city’s culture and hospitality. The posting also noted that the ownership group is “committed to crafting beautiful and innovative spaces, where cherished memories are born.”

The hotel will be located in a mid-1800s Greek Revival building that is a short walk from the St. Charles streetcar line, one mile from the Caesars Superdome, and less than two from Bourbon Street. In fact, many guest reviews of the former Prytania Oaks praise the central location.
