A new restaurant called Pelicans Pier Food & Spirits is coming to 12,000 I-10 Service Rd. in New Orleans East, according to permit filings with the City of New Orleans. The 5,300-square-foot building was home to a New Orleans Hamburger & Seafood Co. location. Glenda Rounds, the owner of Pelicans Pier, told What Now New Orleans that her team is currently “looking to iron out a few things as far as the interior” and declined to offer further details for the time being.
The new restaurant is being planned just as city officials are looking to invest in the service road along I-10. In January, a City Council committee unanimously approved a $61 million project that would build three new pedestrian bridges over the highway and create bike lanes along the service road, which could also be used by pedestrians. The project would be funded by federal monies set aside to reconnect communities divided by urban highways.
