A Northshore nutrition café is branching out to bring “convenient nutrition” to Washington Parish. Set to open in August in Bogalusa, Legit Protein and Fuel Bar is a sister concept to the long-standing Legit Nutrition in Mandeville. Owner Beth Jenkins-Meydrich, who has been a business owner for over 30 years, said the company was inspired by a personal mission to increase the accessibility of healthy food.

“My family in particular, we needed to make a healthier change,” she told What Now New Orleans. “That led us to healthier options, and eventually I opened Legit Nutrition in Mandeville. It’s now going into its seventh year.”

The menu at upcoming nutrition café will focus on high-quality, nutrient-dense options that are difficult to find in the parish. Offerings will include protein-packed acai bowls, shakes, energy teas, and a variety of “low-guilt” foods. Jenkins-Meydrich emphasized that all food and drink items are diabetes-friendly, ensuring the menu is inclusive for those watching their sugar intake. The new location will offer walk-in service, curbside pickup, and delivery options via a dedicated app.

While the flagship location serves a bustling Northshore crowd, Jenkins-Meydrich noted that the Washington Parish location will operate inside the TSC Fitness Studio in Bogalusa. The new spot is located within a fitness center but features its own separate entrance to serve the general public.

“It’s a different vibe there, way more rural. Mandeville, you know, has the city life… (Washington Parish) is more laid back,” she said.

Beyond the protein shakes and acai bowls, Jenkins-Meydrich views the new location as a way to plant roots in the local community. She has already begun collaborating with local schools and businesses to promote healthy lifestyle choices.

“It’s all about forming relationships with the customers, with the community, with the schools, with the businesses, and bringing people together,” she said.
