An 1840s mansion on the edge of Tremé is set to become a new restaurant serving refined comfort food, with an attached event space and pool. Owner Colin Kennedy told What Now New Orleans that he’s hoping the new restaurant, called Lost Coyote, will appeal to both locals and people visiting the city. In addition to having approachable price points, Lost Coyote will have a loyalty program and themed dinner events. The restaurant is slated to open this winter at 1614 Esplanade Ave.

“One of our big things is that we want to try to stay true to the service industry because we’re service industry folks, and we definitely want to try to stay as true as possible to the neighborhood, as best we can,” Kennedy said. “We (also) want to target the boutique hotels around the area that don’t have pools and make sure that guests are aware that we’re there, have a pool, and would love to serve them,”

After many years of experience as a chef and general manager with the massive Creole Cuisine Restaurant Concepts, Kennedy is striking out with a unique concept of his own. The menu will feature refined comfort food, with a take on a scallop casserole and a Beef Wellington pot pie, for example. The bar will feature wines with approachable price points, as well as craft cocktails and local beers. The first floor dining room will seat about 80 guests and there will be additional seating outside. There is also a large venue space on the second floor that can be booked for private parties.

Kennedy said he was initially targeting Magazine Street for a concept when the large, old house on Esplanade became available.

“I saw the massive amount of potential in this building and I think it could be a really fun little place for Esplanade that’s adjacent to the Quarter, the Marigny, and the Bywater,” he said. “So, I think it’s something that the neighborhood would really enjoy.

“We’re hoping to kind of make a little Treme-Esplanade version of The Country Club,” he added, referring to the popular Bywater restaurant.
