What started as a Tuscany-inspired sandwich pop-up in the Marigny in April has become a sensation at the St. Roch Market, and the owners of Lunch Sandwich Shop are currently planning to open two standalone locations.
The sandwiches at Lunch are particularly notable for being made with a Tuscan bread called schiacciata (pronounced skia-cha-ta), which is similar to focaccia. At the St. Roch Market, five cold sandwiches and three hot sandwiches are available. They are made with classic Italian ingredients like fresh mozzarella, pasta sauce, balsamic glaze, and shaved Parmigiano-Reggiano.
Set to open in November, the first standalone location will be a takeout spot in Uptown at 1039 Broadway St. Co-owner Lisa Greenleaf recently told What Now New Orleans that this Lunch location is inspired by the sandwich shops found in Italy.
“The Uptown space is totally takeout only, very much the way you would order and get a sandwich if you were in Florence, Italy,” she said via text message.
The second location will be a full café featuring an array of sandwiches, salads, desserts, espresso drinks, beer and wine. Seating is being planned for the sidewalk, inside the building, and in its courtyard. Greenleaf said that sit-down location of Lunch will open in the fall of 2025.
“We have about another 12 months here at St. Roch until our real, special, amazing new place opens in the Marigny at Franklin Ave. and Dauphine,” she said.
