The nationally recognized and locally loved Tracey’s Original Irish Channel Bar is preparing for a move down Magazine Street where it will have a larger bar and kitchen. The bar is currently located at 2604 Magazine St., and it will be moving in December to a building at 3226 Magazine St. that has sat empty for years.

The original Tracey’s opened in 1949 at the corner of Constance and Third streets and it became Parasol’s in 1952. Current owners Jeff and Jaimee Carreras spent many years running Parasol’s before reopening Tracey’s in its current location in 2010. While the bar is beloved as a destination for football games and St. Patrick’s Day, it’s also known for making a killer roast beef po-boy. In fact, the sandwich has been featured on two Food Network shows: Food Wars and Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives. The menu at the current location features a selection of 8-inch po-boys, sandwiches, and seafood plates. According to reports, the new location will have a bigger kitchen that will allow for an expanded menu with more comfort food dishes.

Because of the food, cold beer, air conditioning, and plenty of TVs for watching sports, Tracey’s has been doing brisk business for decades. The new Tracey’s will have much more bar space to accommodate even bigger crowds. According to reports, the bar will have nearly four dozen TVs for watching sports and a game room with pinball machines upstairs. What Now New Orleans reached out to ownership, but they were waiting on paperwork from the city and as a result, they declined to comment for the time being.
