Nammii is bringing traditional Vietnamese food to Baton Rouge, according to a business permit application. Co-owned by the husband-and-wife duo of Tam Nguyen and Bao Chau Huynh, the restaurant aims for a mid-February opening.

The 1,700 square-foot space on 8905 Highland Road was formerly home to China Taste. Nguyen told What Now New Orleans he wants the space to feel like Vietnam and Hong Kong in the 90s.

Nammii will serve a combination of Hong Kong-style and Vietnamese cuisine, with offerings such as dim sum and Vietnamese noodle soups, including hu tieu, a light pork noodle soup from Southern Vietnam. This will be the fourth restaurant for Nguyen and Huynh, operating three other Vietnamese restaurants around Baton Rouge. While the couple is always thinking of expansion, Nguyen says, “right now, we want to focus on this one and make sure it’s running smoothly.”

“Hopefully the customer support it and come and try the food,” Nguyen said. “I think they will like it.”
